Neil Patrick Harris married his longtime partner, David Burtka, 39, Saturday, in Italy. "We happily confirm that Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka were married in Italy in an intimate ceremony surrounded by their close friends and family," Harris' representative told People.

The Tony winner later confirmed the exciting news on Twitter. "Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the 'n' and 'd' in 'husband' [sic]," the 41-year-old tweeted Monday.

Both Harris and Burtka wore custom Tom Ford tuxedos, and it was an intimate event, says television personality Kelly Ripa. “I went to a destination wedding -- the wedding of Neil Patrick Harris and his partner, David Burtka, breaking news!" she said while on her talk show "Live with Kelly & Michael."

"It was a very quiet, very private, very family affair ... I probably wasn’t even supposed to talk about it, no Neil said I could talk!" She added that the ceremony took place at a rented castle. Elton John also performed at the reception.

Harris and Burtka have been dating for over 10 years and got engaged in 2006, but made the engagement announcement in June 2011, after passage of the Marriage Equality Act in New York. They have fraternal twins, Harper Grace and Gideon Scott, who both turn 4 next month.

In 2013, Harris spoke about marrying Burtka, telling E!, "Certainly,we have children and marriage is an appropriate thing to do [as] a part of their well-being, so I'm sure it will be inevitable—and awesome!"
