New York Knicks guard Raymond Felton turned himself in early Tuesday to be arrested on weapons charges for possessing a gun that was not registered to him in New York City, a police spokesman said.

Felton, 29, was not accused of using the weapon to commit a crime as part of his arrest, New York police Sergeant Thomas Antonetti said.

The three counts of criminal possession of a weapon all relate to a single handgun that the professional basketball player was not registered to have, Antonetti said.

The gun at issue in the case was turned in to police.

Felton was at the jail's central booking early Tuesday awaiting a court appearance, the police sergeant said.

The Knicks lost at home to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday after a game-winning shot at the buzzer by Dirk Nowitzki.
