Nick Santino, a Brooklyn-born actor who appeared on several episodes of All My Children committed suicide on Wednesday, after being stricken with grief because he was forced to euthanize his beloved pit bull Rocco, according to reports.

The New York Post reported that Santino, a struggling actor, was forced to put the dog to sleep because of pressure from his Upper West Side condo. Friends of the actor told the local paper he was overcome by grief. Santino reportedly euthanized his dog on Tuesday, the day of his 47th birthday.

Today I betrayed my best friend and put down my best friend, Santino reportedly wrote in a suicide note, friend Stuart Sarnoff told the Post. Rocco trusted me and I failed him. He didn't deserve this.

Reports are that Santino phoned a former girlfriend at 2 a.m. on Wednesday, and that police found his body in his bedroom later that afternoon. The actor reportedly overdosed on pills.

Santino appeared on seven episodes of All My Children and six episodes of Guiding Light.

His neighbor Lia Pettigrew told the media that Santino felt harassed by his building management company. The actor was reportedly threatened with a $250 fine for having a barking dog. However, another neighbor, Kevan Cleary, told the media that Rocco was not a barker, but somebody complained that the dog would bark.
