Japan's Nikkei average gained 1.2 percent on Wednesday, tracking the previous day's jump on Wall Street. Blue chip exporters like Sony Corp <6758.T> were buoyed as the dollar edged further above 95 yen, a level many exporters have based their earnings forecasts on for the financial year.

The benchmark Nikkei <.N225> rose 106.62 points to 9,417.43, while the broader Topix <.TOPX> climbed 1 percent to 892.96.
