An Australian tourist visiting New York City was raped after heading to a Manhattan nightclub, police said.

The tourist, only identified as a woman in her 20s, was grabbed from behind and dragged into an alley before being raped, police told the New York Daily News.

The woman had been out with two friends Saturday night at NYC nightclub Lavo. She and her friends left the Manhattan hot spot after one of them said they didn’t feel well. Around 3:15 a.m., she got into a cab around East 58th Street, but exited the taxi a short while later because of heavy traffic, the Daily News reported.

That’s when she texted a friend and the rapist attacked her near Lavo, police told the paper.

The tourist could not remember exactly where she was when she was raped after being questioned by officers, the New York Post reported.

While the rape suspect was yet to be apprehended, the New York Police Department does have a sketch of the man who committed the sexual assault.

He was described as a middle-aged man, between 35 and 40 years old, about 6-foot-2 and weighing 190 pounds, the Post reported. The suspect was wearing a skull cap on his head during the rape.

New Yorkers who have any information on the rape or the suspect was urged to call the Crime Stoppers tipline at 1-800-577-TIPS. The NYPD also accepts tips via text by texting CRIMES (274637) and entering TIP577. Tips can also be sent over the Internet at the Crime Stoppers’ website.
