President Obama called Mitt Romney on Wednesday to congratulate the former Massachusetts governor on securing the Republican nomination by winning enough delegates after the Texas primary.

Romney surpassed the 1,144 delegates required to win his party's nomination after winning 105 delegates from Texas, according to the state's government website.

The GOP hopeful has been the predictable nominee for at least a couple of months, so the moment marks an expected but official milestone.
