The Season 4 winter premiere of “Once Upon a Time” cannot come soon enough. Fans of the ABC series have to wait until Mar. 1 to catch new episodes, but the cast is already back in action filming.

The fairytale drama films in Vancouver, and YVR Shoots was able to capture some shots of Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle) … with Robin Hood (Sean Maguire)! The pair is unlikely friends, but based on the winter finale we can hatch some theories on what they might be up to.

When viewers last left off, Robin Hood was forced to cross the Storybrooke town border with his wife, Marian (Christie Laing), and his son, Roland (Raphael Alejandro). Although crossing the border meant that they could never return to their home, it was a necessary move due to Marian’s relapse to the Ice Queen’s (Elizabeth Mitchell) spell. Mr. Gold was put in a similar situation – except he was forced across the border by his scorned wife, Belle (Emilie de Ravin). In the winter finale, Belle discovered that despite talk of change, Gold was still more devoted to dark magic than their love.

The final moments of the winter finale revealed that Gold traveled to New York City after getting banished from Storybrooke. But Gold wasn’t looking to make the Big Apple his new home. He sought out Ursula (Merrin Dungey) and explained that he had a plan to get back into Storybrooke and wreak some havoc.

When “Once Upon a Time” returns fans can expect Gold to link up with Ursula and the other Queens of Darkness, Cruella de Vil (Victoria Smurfit) and Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten). His game plan is to find the author of the “Once Upon a Time” fairytale book and force him to change the rules for the villain. This could potentially mean that the mysterious author lives outside of Storybrooke … and that Gold knows his identity.

So, how does Robin Hood tie into Mr. Gold’s plot line? Our odds are on Gold recruiting him for help! Robin Hood fell in love with Regina (Lana Parrilla), which means that he’ll do anything to be able to re-enter Storybrooke. Since he also wants to re-write their fairytale ending, Robin Hood might be willing to help Gold if it means being able to come face-to-face with the author.
