OnePlus launched its OnePlus 3 successor, the OnePlus 3T, on Wednesday. Many OnePlus enthusiasts are wondering how the OnePlus 3T compares with the OnePlus 3.

OnePlus 3 stocks are slowly being phased out so that it does not cannibalize the sales of the new device. But it remains to be seen whether the device replicates the success of the OnePlus 3. While there are differences between both the handsets, similarities also exist. In terms of form factor, 3T has the same aluminum body with a 5.5-inch display and 7.3mm thickness. It also supports Dash charge for fast charging.

The OnePlus 3T is also priced slightly higher at $429 compared to the OnePlus 3 price tag of $399 on the official website. Should you upgrade to the handset if you already own a OnePlus 3? What's different? Let's find out.

Larger battery

The OnePlus 3 had its share of consumers complaining about battery issues. OnePlus has endowed the OnePlus 3T with a larger, 3400 mAh battery compared to the OnePlus 3's 3000 mAh one — a 13 percent difference. But despite the larger battery, the weight and form factor of the device remain the same.

Improved Oxygen OS Interface

Although the OnePlus 3T doesn't ship with Android 7.0 out of the box, the company is offering the update to both OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T owners. The OnePlus 3T ships with Oxygen OS version 3.5.1. It offers quick access icons in the status bar for improved navigation, resized app icons and ability to add password or fingerprint verification to individual apps.

New Camera Lens and Improved Stabilization

The OnePlus 3T comes with a Sapphire rear camera lens and offers improved Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS). The new camera lens will be more scratch-resistant, which will increase the life of the camera.

OnePlus has improved the front camera resolution to 16 megapixels so that users can take better selfies. It also uses pixel binning technology and a Samsung 3P8SP sensor for better low-light photography.

Faster Processor

The OnePlus 3T comes with Snapdragon 821 inside. It is currently the fastest chip available on Android and is expected to offer 10 percent faster boot speed, 10 percent faster app load, faster GPU clock speeds and 5 percent more power efficiency.

New Color Option and Better Storage

The OnePlus 3T will come in a new Gunmetal color and a 128 GB storage option.

So, in conclusion, the OnePlus 3T definitely offers some worthwhile upgrades, but if you already own a OnePlus 3 device and are not too desperate for a change, you could wait for the OnePlus 4.
