Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry may have called it quits, but they have decided to stay friends.

In an interview with Elle UK, the 32-year-old actor said that it is his goal to set a good example to the younger generation when it comes to breakups. “We’re friends, it’s good. We’re all grown up. She happens to be someone who is very visible, but I don’t think anybody care about what I’m up to. Nor should they. It’s between us. It’s better to set an example for kids and show that breakups don’t have to be about hate,” he said.

Last month, Perry also talked about her breakup with Bloom and said that no one is to be blamed for their decision. The couple dated for a year before announcing their decision to go their separate ways in March. In a joint statement to People, Perry and Bloom said, “Before rumors of falsifications get out of hand, we can confirm that Orlando and Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time. On her Twitter account, the “Roar” singer stressed that it’s still possible to love and respect former partners. She also encouraged her millions of fans to develop a changed mindset for 2017.

Perry and Bloom were last seen at the annual Vanity Fair Oscars party last month. An insider told People that the then-couple barely interacted with each other. Another source claimed that one of the reasons for their breakup had to do with Bloom not wanting to settle down long-term with the singer. “Orlando didn’t want things to get more serious. Lately he acted like he had one foot out the door and Katy picked up on that. He just isn’t ready to be tied down. He went along with their relationship for as long as it was fun,” the insider said.
