With ongoing turmoil in Egypt, a friendly between the U.S. men's national team and Egypt scheduled for February 9 has been canceled.

We were excited about the opportunity to play against Egypt, but due to the current situation all parties agreed it was best to cancel the match, said U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati. We appreciate the efforts of the Egyptian Football Association and the U.S. State Department as we worked through this situation.

While the news is disappointing, though not surprising given U.S. soccer's statement last week, it is likely for the best given the uncertainty of the situation in the African nation.

U.S. soccer will next play against Argentina March 26 in New Jersey.
