Ho, ho, ho – It’s time to get in the Christmas spirit! Even though we’re still a week away from Halloween, ABC Family is spreading some holiday cheer with the release of the “Pretty Little Liars” 2014 Christmas special synopsis. This year the hit ABC Family series decided to skip their annual Halloween episode in order to produce a very special Christmas event – “How the ‘A’ Stole Christmas.” But fans shouldn’t expect an episode full of joy … because Spencer is locked up behind bars.

Last time “Pretty Little Liars” viewers left off, Alison (Sasha Pieterse) went completely rogue on Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Hanna (Ashley Benson), Aria (Lucy Hal) and Emily (Shay Mitchell). The Liars immediately feared the worst about their former friend, and turned out to be right – because Spencer was arrested by Detective Holbrook (Sean Faris) for the murder of Bethany Young, the girl who was actually buried in Alison’s grave years ago.

Fortunately Mona (Janel Parrish) had files on Bethany that they stole from Radley and was doing everything in her power to find something to help clear Spencer’s name. And Mona found just that. She discovered that Alison had knew about her mother’s affair with Bethany’s dad and lured Bethany to Rosewood because she was jealous and wanted her dead. Mona alerted Aria, but it was too late by the time the Liars arrived at Mona’s house. A blonde girl wearing a black hoodie and leather gloves (potentially “A”) had been watching Mona and broke into her house and attacked her. The girls and Ezra (Ian Harding) found Mona’s home completely destroyed … with blood smeared everywhere.

The summer finale of “Pretty Little Liars” concluded with Holbrook confirming that Mona had been murdered despite her body missing. However fans knew where Mona’s body was – in the trunk of “A’s” car with the baby Jesus from Emily’s Nativity scene.

According to the Christmas special synopsis, “How the ‘A’ Stole Christmas” will find the town of Rosewood in full holiday spirit as Christmas approaches. However Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer “aren’t feeling much holiday cheer after the loss of Mona and Spencer’s murder charge looming over them.” But that dark and gloomy feeling won’t stay for long because an “opportunity presents itself” for the girls to gain evidence to clear Spencer’s name. With their significant others at their side, the Liars will “devise a plan to get justice for Mona and finally bring Alison down.”

Speaking of Alison … the troubled teen will be getting her own version of “A Christmas Carol.” The synopsis teases that Alison will get a “glimpse at the past, present and future by a ghostly presence.”

The “Pretty Little Liars” 2014 Christmas special, episode 13, will air on ABC Family on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. EDT.
