The Muslim holy month of Ramadan starts the evening of May 26 and the fasting begins the following day from dawn to sunset. For a month, Muslims across the world will abstain from both water and food.

The fasting usually begins with Muslims waking up around 4 a.m. or 5 a.m. to eat and drink ahead of their daylong fast. At sundown, the daily fast is broken with the iftar meal, which usually consists of dates, sweet drinks, and desserts.
