Two La Liga giants squared off in La Liga's season opener.

In a surprisingly uneven match, Real Madrid took 17 shots compared to Barcelona's three, but the game still ended in a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the Super Cup at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid had several chances, but only received goals from Mesut Ozil in the 13th minute, off the fantastic pass by Karim Benzema, and by Xabi Alonso's strike in the 54th minute. Cristiano Ronald played a major role in putting pressure on the Barcelona goal.

Meanwhile, the goal of the match came from David Villa in his lone shot in the 36th minute. Barcelona's Lionel Messi would score nine minutes later when Real Madrid's Pepe slipped. The Argentine star took advantage by sliding the ball by goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Real Madrid had 23 fouls, compared to Barcelona's 14.

The second leg will be at Nou Camp on Wednesday. It's possible that Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas will join Barcelona by then.
