The trailer for the much-anticipated WWII film "Red Tails" was released Friday on Yahoo!

George Lucas, who serves as producer and co-writer, has been working on "Red Tails" for more than a decade, but due to production delays and struggles with writers, the "Star Wars" creator did not settle on a final script until he hired John Ridley ("Three Kings") in 2007.

"Red Tails," directed by Anthony Hemingway, tells the story of a group of WWII African American combat pilots, known as the Tuskegee Airmen.

Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrance Howard and Bryan Cranston lead the star-studded cast, which also includes singer NeYo, "Friday Night Lights" star Michael B. Jordan and Method Man.

"Red Tails" will be released on Jan. 20, 2012, according to a statement released by Lucasfilm.
