Actress Reese Witherspoon was hit by a car on Wednesday morning while she was out on a jog near Los Angeles. She suffered minor injuries, an AP report said.

The car that hit that actress was driven by an 84-year-old woman, Santa Monica police Sgt. Richard Lewis said. Witherspoon was taken to a near-by hospital immediately for treatment.

Reese was crossing the street at the time of the accident, and the driver failed to stop.

The 35-year old actress was jogging in an unmarked crosswalk in Santa Monica when the driver struck her at about 20 mph (32 kph), the report said.

According to police officials, the driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The actress was taking rest at home following the accident, Accesshollywood reported.
