Reese Witherspoon realized how hard it really is to sing Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” and Katy Perry’s “Firework” when she recorded both songs for her upcoming animated musical film, “Sing.”

“I actually ran into both of them as I was doing each song [in the movie],” Witherspoon revealed to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of the Garth Jennings-directed flick on Saturday, Dec. 3. “[Swift] was like, ‘You know, I make it look easy but it’s really hard.’”

As to how Perry reacted when she found out that Witherspoon was covering “Firework,” the actress said: “She’s like, ‘That’s hard.’ But I just did the best I could. I’m supposed to be the mom singing the songs, so they don't have anything to worry about. I’m not cutting an album any time soon!”

While the Oscar-winning thespian has no immediate plans to jump into the music scene, she indeed tried her best to give justice to both tracks. In fact, Witherspoon practiced belting the songs out so often at home that both hits might have gotten on her children’s nerves from time to time.

“I definitely was singing ‘Firework’ too much,” Witherspoon told E! News at the same event. “I definitely got like, ‘Mom, stop singing ‘Firework’ and ‘Shake It Off’ all the time.’”

In the film, Witherspoon lends her pipes to a domestic pig named Rosita, who gave up her teenage music dreams to become a devoted wife to Norman (Nick Offerman) and mother to 25 piglets.

“I think that there’s something beautiful about the idea that your mom is a person too,” Witherspoon said of one of the film’s themes. “Beyond being just a mom, [Rosita] has her own dreams and desires so… the film kind of explores that through my character.”

Besides Witherspoon and Offerman, Matthew McConaughey, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Tori Kelly, Taron Egerton and Nick Kroll also star in “Sing.” The film opens in theaters on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
