“Castle Crashers Remastered” is coming to the Xbox One on Sept. 9 as an Xbox Live download title. The game is an enhanced edition of the original “Castle Crashers,” with a visual upgrade and some brand new features. First released on the Xbox 360 seven years ago, the popular game was later ported to the PlayStation 3.

The game is an action role-playing game (RPG) that lets players team up with four of their friends or go on their lonesome in action-packed adventures filled with monsters, aliens and a number of humorous enemies. Some of the newer features coming to the remastered version include a new multiplayer mini-game called “Back off Barbarian,” more detailed textures and multiplayer performance updates.

Fans, who purchased the game on the Xbox 360, will be able to get the remastered version for free until Sept. 20, as long as they have an Xbox Live Gold account, says “Castle Crashers” developer The Behemoth. After Sept. 20, the remastered version will be priced at $4.99 for those who bought the original version of the game, while other Xbox One users, who did not purchase the original, will have to pay $14.99 for the downloadable title.

Interestingly enough, the original Xbox 360 version of “Castle Crashers” will soon be playable on the Xbox One due to the console’s newly announced backwards compatibility, which comes to the platform this fall. Gamers, who own the last-gen version of “Castle Crashers,” will be able to play it for free, though it will not have the remastered version’s enhanced graphics or any of its new features.

Gematsu has stated that an update to the Steam version of “Castle Crashers” is coming soon as well. No further updates were announced on the matter, though development on the Steam version’s update will begin later this year.

“Castle Crashers” also came out on the PlayStation 3, and it will be interesting to see if the remastered version comes to the PlayStation 4 in the near future. So far, the developer has not mentioned a version of “Castle Crashers: Remastered” for Sony’s current-gen console.
