Google is in preliminary talks to purchase Hulu, according to a report.

Hulu, the streaming video company, has met with potential buyers including Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Google owns YouTube, and a merger with Hulu would give the company premium programming to go with YouTube's user-uploaded videos.

Google bought SageTv in the past year. SageTV is an alternative software viewing option to Windows Media Center. SageTV allows users to watch TV programs that are live or recorded remotely on another device.

Media accounts in June have also said that Google is preparing to launch Apple TV, involving a high-def television product and a video online retail center similar to its iTunes music online retail center.
