“Real Housewives Of Atlanta” star Apollo Nida is coming to his own defense against critics who are calling him out for becoming a government informant as part of a plea deal in his federal fraud case.

On May 7, TMZ reported that Nida made a plea deal on May 6 in his case for wire and bank fraud. According to the site, the conditions of the deal require Nida to serve in an “undercover investigative capacity” for the federal government. The reality star also agreed to allow the feds to record any conversations he may possibly have with criminal suspects.

Though many interpret the plea deal as him selling out and becoming a government “snitch,” Nida took to his Twitter account on Wednesday to clarify the terms of the deal. He also stressed that the informant requirement is a “standard” part of the way many plea deals are structured.

Nida also addressed talk regarding his reasoning for participating in the scheme in the first place. Talk show host Wendy Williams recently questioned Nida’s claims that he committed the crimes to financially keep up with his wife Phaedra Parks, telling her show audience that “Real Housewives of Atlanta” husbands get paid for their appearances on the show.

On his Twitter account, Nida addressed this statement, saying he actually makes no money for his time on the show.
