“Riverdale” Season 2 will feature a “colder and meaner” Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch).

While speaking with TV Line, Petsch revealed that Cheryl will not be joining Archie (KJ Apa) and his friends at the lunch table anytime soon. Despite the fact that Archie, Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) helped clear Cheryl’s name in Jason’s (Trevor Stines) murder, she may still not want to hang out with her classmates.

“I actually think she’s going to become even colder and even meaner in Season 2. After what happened in Season 1, she’s just done. She’s so shut down and broken. Veronica wants Cheryl to become part of the gang, and Cheryl wants so badly to become a part of the gang, but she’s so egotistical and there’s so much going on in her head that she doesn’t want to do it,” Petsch explained.

In the last few episodes of “Riverdale” Season 1, it was revealed that Jason was killed by his own father, Clifford (Barclay Hope). Unfortunately, the big reveal came after Jughead’s dad, FP (Skeet Ulrich), was already in prison for telling the police officers that he was the one who killed Jason. Come Season 2, FP will still be in prison, and he will be shocked to know that his son is now a member of the Southside Serpents.

While speaking with the same publication last month, Sprouse opened up about his character’s “dark turn” in the upcoming episodes. “I think the whole show is going to be darker and stranger. We’re going to be leaning into a lot of those qualities that a lot of people ended up loving in the first couple of episodes – this heavy cinematography, this overbearing coloration, this really dark content that’s kind of over-the-top and campy, but it’s taken very seriously,” he said.

Elsewhere, Archie will also face some struggles on his own after his dad, Fred (Luke Perry), was shot in the finale. Executive producer Robert Aguirre-Sacasa told Vulture that Archie seeing his dad shot will certainly change him and give him a different purpose.

“Riverdale” Season 2 will premiere on The CW on Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. EDT.
