Robin Gibb, one of the three brothers in the legendary Bee Gees musical group, died on Sunday at the age of 62, after a long battle with cancer.

According to a statement released by a representative of Gibb: The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.

Diagnosed with colon cancer in 2010, Gibb had been hospitalized several times in the past few years, most recently with pneumonia last month.

The late Bee Gee was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994, and the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three years later.
