The man who was killed after he fell from the upper deck of Atlanta’s Turner Field Monday night has been identified as Ronald Lee Homer Jr. of Conyers, Ga., according to the Fulton County medical examiner’s office.
Homer, 29, died after he fell 65 feet from the stadium’s upper deck and landed in a parking lot. The lifelong Atlanta Braves fan was taken to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Atlanta Police Department Officer John Chafee said in a statement.
"On Aug. 12, 2013, around 8:55 p.m., officers responded to a person down call at Turner Field,” the statement read. “Upon arrival officers located a male who appeared to have fallen from an upper level platform to a secured lot approximately 65 feet below. The male was transported to Atlanta Medical Center and died from his injuries. At this time there is no indication of foul play and the fall appears accidental. The victim's identity has not been released."
Monday night’s game between the Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies was delayed about two hours due to rain. The first pitch was thrown shortly before 9 p.m. EDT. The man fell a short while after that time, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Homer’s mother, Connie Homer, told the Associated Press that her son called her Monday night, when the rain was starting to dissipate. He told her that he was heading back into Turner Field to watch the game before hanging up and telling his mother that he loved her.

Matthew Cox, a student at Auburn University who attended the game, said a Turner Field employee told him that he saw a man standing by the black iron railing inside a stairwell in the stadium. The next thing the employee saw, the man was on the ground.
“That guy just jumped over,” another Turner Field worker told Cox, according to USA Today.
Cox said he heard that the man was running away from security, but the Atlanta Police Department said the victim was not being pursued.
Homer’s fatal fall at Turner Field was the second such death at an Atlanta sporting event in the last year, CNN reported.
