There are rumors going around that Samsung will announce a mini version of the Galaxy S8. However, these rumors might not actually be true at all.

The exact origin of the Galaxy S8 Mini rumors can’t be determined, but the most recent and most cited report came from Chinese website ITHome. The site claims that the Galaxy S8 Mini will have a 5.3-inch display size, with a body that still feels like a 4.7-inch device thanks to its all-screen design.

That being said, the Galaxy S8 Mini is expected to arrive with the same Infinity Display along with the unusual 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The similarities continue on with the inclusion of the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and the same 12-megapixel camera on the back. The Mini will also support the iris recognition technology with its front-facing cameras.

As for internals, the report claims that the Galaxy S8 Mini would be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 processor along with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The Mini would be less powerful than the regular S8 and the S8 Plus, but it seems to be on the same level as Google’s Pixel smartphone, as pointed out by BGR.

Overall, the Galaxy S8 Mini seems to be a very formidable handset. It could also attract consumers who may be interested in owning a Galaxy S8 with a smaller body. No release date was given by the report, but the Galaxy S8 Mini is said to arrive first in South Korea. Pricing details were also not shared by the report.

The last time that Samsung released a “Mini” version of its flagship Galaxy S phone was the Galaxy S5 Mini back in 2014. The Galaxy S6 and S7 didn’t get miniaturized versions, so the prospect of Samsung reviving the “Mini” for the Galaxy S8 is a bit hard to believe.

Another reason why this is hard to believe is because an unnamed Samsung engineer just said that there is no Galaxy S8 Mini. This is according to a tweet made by @mmddj_china.

There really is no way of verifying the authenticity of that supposed “leak,” but Samsung hasn’t confirmed a smaller version of the Galaxy S8 yet, nor has it even hinted or teased anything related to it. On the business side of things, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are both doing pretty well so far, and releasing this mini version doesn’t really give Samsung an advantage.

Releasing a Galaxy S8 Mini also seems a bit redundant considering that Samsung is already expected to release two more major phones this year, as pointe dout by The Android Soul. The first is the refurbished Galaxy Note 7, which is believed to be called the Galaxy Note Fan Edition. The Galaxy Note FE is believed to launch on July 7 and will cost around $600.

The other major phone that Samsung is expected to release is the Galaxy Note 8. There’s a lot of rumors when this phone might be released, with one of them claiming it might launch as early as Aug. 26.
