KEY POINTS

  • Samsung has a new pair of wireless earbuds
  • It now has an official name, Galaxy Buds Live, and has active noise cancellation
  • It also has a slew of features that will interest many Samsung device users such as a “Find My Earbuds” feature and the ability to read notifications aloud

Samsung's upcoming bean-shaped wireless earbuds are confirmed to have active noise cancellation as well as other features that will make them a direct rival to Apple's AirPods Pro.

Previous reports indicated that Samsung is working on a pair of bean-shaped wireless earbuds with noise cancellation features. At first, it was reportedly called Galaxy Beans, then it was dubbed the Galaxy Buds X. But it has now been officially named Galaxy Buds Live. The new pair of earbuds do have active noise cancellation features as expected, but it also features more.

According to a companion app called Galaxy Buds Live Plugin, which is now live at the Play Store (first spotted by XDA Developers), the new AirPods Pro rival will have ANC, an equalizer feature, touch controls and the ability to read aloud notifications so the wearer will presumably know what they're about. It also has a “Find My Earbuds” feature that will come in very handy in certain situations.

Here's a quick look at each of these features:

Active Noise Cancellation

Images shown in the app listing reveal that users will be able to turn ANC features on or off depending on their preference. How the feature will work to improve audio quality in real life remains to be seen. It will be interesting to see how much noise the Galaxy Buds Live will be able to cancel considering that it doesn't have in-ear tips due to its unique shape.

Equalizer

According to an image, users will be able to choose from six preset EQ options: Normal, Bass boost, Soft, Dynamic, Clear, and Treble boost. It's currently unclear if users will be able to adjust the EQ manually.

Touch Controls

Users will be able to configure if they want the Galaxy Buds Live to respond to taps or not. They will also be able to choose how the left and right earbud responds to taps if enabled. These responses include playback controls, as well as turning ANC on or off.

Read Notification Aloud

The images do not provide specific details about this feature, but the app description indicates that it will be able to tell users who is calling them, read incoming text messages to them and remind them of any event or scheduled activity on their calendar.

Find My Earbuds

Lastly, the app indicates that the Galaxy Buds Live will help users locate missing earbuds using sound. The missing earbud can be commanded to emit beeping sounds to give away its location.
