Fans are eagerly awaiting new details from the "Game of Thrones" panel at this week's San Diego Comic-Con. HBO

San Diego Comic-Con is getting ready to open its doors. One of the most-anticipated events of the show, which will run Thursday through Sunday, is the “Game of Thrones” panel, which will take place from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. PDT Friday in Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center.

Season 5 of the HBO television series recently concluded, with many of the main and even minor characters meeting their deaths. The events of the season's final episode alienated some fans, but left many others anxiously awaiting Season 6.

According to IGN, Friday's panelists will include Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams, who play the Stark sisters. Turner, who plays Sansa, was in new territory during Season 5. Her character ended up in Winterfell, a long way from where she is in the novels by author George RR Martin. Turner also appeared in one of the most controversial scenes of Season 5 -- the rape scene involving Sansa and Ramsay Bolton, which caused outrage among a multitude of viewers.

Theon Greyjoy bore witness to the horrendous act. Alfie Allen, who plays Theon, will also participate in Friday's panel. Other cast members who will attend include John Bradley, Gwendoline Christie, Liam Cunningham, Natalie Dormer, Conleth Hill, Hannah Murray and Carice van Houten.

Controversial new director Jack Bender won’t be present and won't have a chance to clarify his claim that he has read an advance manuscript of Martin's “The Winds of Winter.” However, David Nutter, another one of the show’s directors, will be in San Diego to talk about the previous seasons as well as Season 6.

Martin won’t be at Comic-Con and won’t be writing an episode for Season 6, as he previously had hoped. He declared months ago that he is cutting down on personal appearances in order to finish writing "The Winds of Winter," the sixth installment of the book series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” upon which "Game of Thrones" is based. “The Winds of Winter” is highly anticipated by fans worldwide.

At this point in the TV show, most of the material from the five published novels has been covered. One of the biggest topics heading into Season 6 is whether the character Jon Snow -- who was killed in the Season 5 finale and was played by Kit Harington -- will be resurrected or not. Fans are hoping that the Comic-Con panel will provide some juicy spoilers.
