“Scandal” Season 6, episode 1 will not only reveal the name of the new president of the United States, but it will also unveil President Fitzgerald Grant’s (Tony Goldwyn) lamest move yet.

In “Survival of the Fittest,” President Fitz is preparing to leave the White House, but before doing so, he will make a huge decision that could cause big problems for a lot of people. TV Line entertainment writer Michael Ausiello teased that some of the events in the premiere episode will have a connection to President Fitz’s “lame duck” decision.

Previously, executive producer Shonda Rhimes confirmed that the first 10 minutes of the Season 6 premiere will focus on the results of the election. However, majority of the episode will feature flashbacks from the months leading up to the big announcement day. While at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Rhimes said (via Vulture), “You find out the results of the election immediately, but you go back in time and focus on different characters and how they got to that moment.”

Rhimes added that Season 6 will be different from the past seasons of “Scandal” because of all the flashbacks that will be part of the show. “Because of the way we laid out this season, we really do have this beautiful way of telling this season this year where we’re really stepping back in time and going forward in time and seeing things from different characters’ perspectives. It’s not really about the crazy things happening to the characters, it’s about where they come to after all this time,” she said.

“Scandal” Season 6 will premiere on ABC on Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. EST.
