Abby Whelan’s (Darby Stanchfield) true motives for wanting to get rid of Jennifer Fields (Chelsea Kurtz) and Huck (Guillermo Diaz) is finally revealed in “Scandal” Season 6, episode 8.

In “A Stomach For Blood,” Abby was told by a mysterious organization that she is one of the most powerful women in the United States. As chief of staff, Abby has a direct connection to President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn). However, President Fitz will soon say goodbye to his post at the White House, and this will leave Abby without power.

So when Abby realized that she could become the next president of the United States, she immediately got on board with the organization’s plan: get rid of Frankie Vargas (Ricardo Chavira). In addition, Abby also made a deal with the organization that she will give up everyone else in exchange for Cyrus Beene’s (Jeff Perry) freedom.

The two characters could eventually work together to take over the White House. While speaking with TV Line, Stanchfield explained why Abby and Cryus’ partnership is worth watching in the upcoming episodes. “The storyline with Cyrus isn’t over by a long shot. It’s all she has left, really. I mean, she literally had someone killed to get Cyrus out. Jeff Perry and I always talk about this relationship. It’s such a dark, twisted one, but there’s also a subtle mentor/mentee vibe. They have each other’s back in a weird way,” she said.

Meanwhile, Stanchfield also weighed in on why Abby had Huck killed. After all, the latter was the one who tipped her about Jennifer being alive. Despite the shooting in the previous episode, it seems that Huck survived. According to Stanchfield, Huck will be in a mess in the upcoming installments. “He’s in trouble. He’s a mess. I’m really looking forward to that eventually coming out. It’s pretty serious,” she said.

“Scandal” Season 6 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
