At the end of the Season 1 finale of “Scream Queens,” Hester (Lea Michele) was revealed to be the brains of the Red Devil team that was responsible for all the murders that happened at Wallace University. But is she still one of the bad guys when the FOX series returns for Season 2 this fall?

In a brief interview with TV Guide, Michele suggested that her character has had a change of heart.

“As the murders start to happen [in Season 2], everyone is obviously thinking that it's Hester again," the 29-year-old actress said. “She's quite adamant that she is not the killer this season, but that she will try and help them figure out who the killer is.”

During the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con last month, series creator Ian Brennan revealed that at the beginning of the new installment, Hester won't be in the hospital where most of the returning characters are based.

“We don't know where Hester is [at the start of the season]” Brennan said (via TVLine).

“[But] I'm very happy I'm not with these guys in the hospital,” Michele added. “My costume is very comfortable, and I have a fun new accessory to play with.”

So where could Hester be? This question was answered when Michele was spotted filming in Fillmore, Ventura County, Calif., on July 27.

As seen in a video and photos obtained by the Daily Mail, Michele — as Hester — was wearing a blue prison jumpsuit with shackles around her hands, legs and waist. She was escorted down the steps of what appeared to be a police station by two cops and placed her inside a waiting SUV. Despite Hester's predicament at the moment, Michele was seen smiling a lot.

While it’s unclear why exactly Michele’s character is in prison at the beginning of Season 2, a lot fans think that Cathy Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) turned Hester in for the murders she committed as the final Red Devil last season.

Besides Michele and Curtis, other returning original cast members include Emma Roberts (Chanel Oberlin), Billie Lourd (Chanel #3/Sadie Swenson), Abigail Breslin (Chanel #5/Libby Putney), Keke Palmer (Zayday), Glen Powell (Chad Radwell) and Niecy Nash (Denise Hemphill).

Joining them is a bunch of newcomers including John Stamos (Dr. Brock Holt), Taylor Lautner (Dr. Cassidy Cascade), James Earl (Candy Striper), Colton Haynes, Cecily Strong, Laura Bell Bundy, Jerry O'Connell and Cheri Oteri.

“Scream Queens” Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 9 p.m. on FOX.
