Fans couldn’t help but comment in adoration of Selena Gomez and The Weeknd’s red carpet debut at the Met Gala but it was the singer’s mother, Mandy Teefey, whose words seemed to stand out the most.

Following the “Starboy” singer’s post of himself and his girlfriend on Monday, Gomez’s mother later shared her opinion of the photo, letting the singer know she is in full support of her daughter’s relationship.

In the photo posted on The Weeknd’s Instagram account, he and the “13 Reasons Why” producer are pictured on the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art posing for the cameras as the embrace one another.

“Glowing, smiling, looking health and equal love,” Teefey wrote in The Weeknd’s comments section.

“Mama is happy XO,” the matriarch added.

In March, Teefey expressed her joy that her daughter seemed happy again due to her break from the spotlight. “I think it was actually [from] taking a break. You asked what it is [like] to feel like you’re in this world, we’re in a bubble. It’s not a real world. You don’t really realize it until you go out of this bubble and you’re like, ‘Oh, OK,’” she told Entertainment Tonight.

However, now that her daughter is stepping back into Hollywood once again, she seems content that The Weeknd will be by her side.

Prior to hitting the Met Gala together, Gomez and The Weeknd have acknowledged their relationship on social media but have not spoken openly about their romance. Initially, the two only shared images and videos of one another on temporary social media like SnapChat and Instagram Story in which the content disappears after 24 hours.

However, in April, The Weeknd shared a photo of his girlfriend giving him a kiss on the cheek, seemingly making their relationship Instagram official. Gomez followed up a week later posting a photo of the two at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Seeing as the couple has been on a romantic vacation to Italy and traveled to other parts of the world together, it was only a matter of time before they became public with their romance and what better what to do that than to appear on the red carpet at the Met Gala?

Also in attendance at the New York soiree was The Weeknd’s ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid. The model, who was reportedly bitter about the singer’s relationship seeing as he began dating Gomez shortly after they split, did her best to avoid her ex and his new love.

“Bella was actually still outside going through the exhibit while Selena and The Weeknd were at dinner. You have to go through the exhibit to end up in the Temple of Dendur room where the dinner is, so Bella mainly stuck back hanging with friends laughing and having fun,” a source told E! News.

The model reportedly arrived late to dinner. Perhaps it was her smoking break in the bathroom with Lara Stone, Paris Jackson and Ruby Rose that made her tardy. Despite what could have been an awkward night it seemed like Hadid enjoyed her time out while Gomez and The Weeknd marked a milestone in their relationship with their red carpet debut as a couple.
