Living in the UK or Australia and hoping to get your hands on Sony’s next-gen PS4? The company promises to deliver “substantial further volumes” of the in-demand console before Christmas arrives – just in time for the holiday rush.
Sony’s UK managing director Fergal Gara was excited about the upcoming shipment. “We are delighted by the initial sales of the PS4 and are proud to have set new records for a UK console launch.” Gara also thanked Sony fans for being patient and understanding, two traits that aren't always synonymous with waiting months for a system that was pre-ordered almost a year ago. “I want to thank all the gamers who have waited for the PS4 and who have come out to support Playstation. I also want to thank all of our retail and publishing partners who have helped make this possible by delivering huge sales in a very short period of time.”
The Playstation 4, which launched in North America on Nov. 15, sold one million units within 24 hours of its launch. The console has since launched in Europe, New Zealand and Australia and went on to sell 2 million total systems. Microsoft's Xbox One hit shelves on Nov. 22 in 13 countries, only one week after the PS4 reached North American consumers.
“Since the initial announcement back in February, pre-orders for PS4 have surpassed all expectations and we continue to work hard to fulfill the remainder of these pre-orders and to deliver additional consoles to the market for the many more gamers who want a PS4,” Gara said.
Australian retailers will also be receiving more PS4 shipments, although the supply may not meet shoppers’ demands until after Christmas. “We will continue to supply the demand, starting in January and every subsequent month until we satisfy Australia’s appetite for the PS4,” said managing director of Sony Australia Michael Ephraim. “We are working fast as possible to bring more stock in, Australia is an important territory for Playstation…around the world, the response has been overhelming and we’ll do our best to bring it in to replenish in early 2014.
