With “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” headed to cinemas by the end of the year, mobile game developer Kabam has decided to shock gamers by announcing “Star Wars Uprising,” a mobile role-playing game (RPG) set after “Return of the Jedi.” The game will take place sometime after the Empire was seemingly beaten, but as the trailer shows, it seems that an encounter with Emperor Palpatine was just the beginning.

“Star Wars Uprising” will allow players to create their own character and explore the universe of “Star Wars” in an action RPG that plays similarly to the “Diablo” games. Kabam has promised deep customization for the created characters, as well as real-time online co-op, so players can take down the Empire with their friends.

Pocket Gamer states that players will be able to form their own crew, while also finding the best gear and taking on a variety of missions. Some of these missions will take place in the Anoat Sector of Hoth and in the Cloud City, two areas that should be interesting to visit now that the threat of the Emperor and Darth Vader is gone.

The official website of “Star Wars” has also shed some light on the game’s character classes. While players won’t be able to follow the path of the Jedi, as Luke Skywalker did, they can be a smuggler, bounty hunter, diplomat, rebel guerrilla, gambler or anything they choose.

Kabam is one of the more prolific mobile game developers, as the company has worked on a number of mobile tie-in games before, like “The Hobbit” and “The Godfather.” Most recently, it has been working on “Marvel Contest of Champions” and recently introduced Ultron to the game.

Fans excited about “Uprising” can pre-register in the official site of the game and can soon participate in the game’s open beta. “Star Wars Uprising” will be out this fall for iOS and Android devices, though it’s still unclear if the game is a free-to-play title or a premium app.
