Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Rhea (Teri Hatcher) are going to cross paths once again in Season 2, episode 20 of “Supergirl.”

As revealed in the trailer for the episode, Kara and J’onn (David Harewood) discover that Rhea has returned on Earth. The duo locates the Queen of Daxamites’ whereabouts and finds her in a laboratory where she is building her transmatter portal. Kara and Rhea then find themselves in a fist fight, which appears to have ended with the Girl of Steel hitting her boyfriend’s mom in the face.

“You need this planet to worship you. It feels good to look down on them, doesn’t it?” Rhea tells Kara in the preview clip. “Everything that happens from now on is your doing. Every city that burns, every nation that falls … why all these is happening? The answer is Supergirl.”

In Season 2, episode 19, Rhea posed as a businesswoman and offered Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) the chance to partner up with her to build the transmatter portal. Lena was amazed by Rhea’s proposal, telling her that her device “could revolutionize travel, energy, security, just about anything.” But when Lena found out that Rhea is an alien, the young Luthor quickly decided not to pursue any business ventures with her.

But being the master manipulator that she is, Rhea returned to Lena’s office, apologizing for pretending to be of this Earth. The Daxamite told Lena that she lied to her because she knows how much her mother Lillian (Brenda Strong) loathes aliens. “I made a mistake,” she told Lena. “You are nothing like your mother. I see that now.”

When Lena asked what Rhea wants from her, Rhea said that she wants exactly what she proposed. “I want us to work together to create a transmitter portal. We have them where I come from,” Rhea said. “L-Corp has already built a large-scale generator ring. We can easily adapt it for this. The portal would help your planet immensely and it would help me get home to mine.”

At the end of the episode, Lena agreed to work with Rhea — a partnership that Kara has yet to discover.

Elsewhere in next week’s episode, a Phorian — an otherwise peaceful alien race with telekinetic powers — attacks National City. According to the synopsis for the hour, Guardian (Mehcad Brooks), a.k.a. James, gets a lead on the Phorian’s address, but instead of finding the culprit, he finds a very scared boy named Marcus (Lonnie Chavis). Marcus only trusts James, so it is up to Guardian to stop the attacks on the city.

The episode is a pivotal episode for James, who finds himself at crossroads as he struggles with his vigilante gig. “There’s a lovely moment that I have with Mehcad, about accepting who you are,” Harewood shared with TVLine. “James is reluctant to step in and help somebody, and I persuade him, as a hero, that sometimes you have to go against your own instincts and do something that’s right, as opposed to what you think might be right.”

When asked if there’s a chance J’onn will recruit James to the DEO, Harewood said: “I really want to see James in the DEO. Winn (Jeremy Jordan) has been a real find in the DEO, so maybe one day we can get James in there, as well.”

“Supergirl” Season 2, episode 20, titled “City of Lost Children,” airs on Monday, May 8 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
