Something is not right with Martian Manhunter (David Harewood) in the trailer for next week’s episode of “Supergirl.”

In the preview clip for Season 2, episode 7, titled “The Darkest Places,” Martian Manhunter attacks Kara multiple times as the Kryptonian tries to rescue Mon-El (Chris Wood), who was kidnapped by CADMUS at the end of last night’s episode.

“Why are you doing this?” Kara asks the head of the D.E.O.

“Because it’s time for you to die,” he answers in an almost robotic voice.

It’s unclear why Martian Manhunter suddenly becomes a villain, but the character’s unexpected change of behavior may have something to do with the blood transfusion he received from Miss Martian (Sharon Leal) last episode.

In Season 2, episode 6, titled “Changing,” Martian Manhunter, a.k.a. J’onn J’onnz, lost a lot of blood after the Parasite drained his powers. In order to save him, Alex (Chyler Leigh) reached out to Miss Martian, a.k.a. M’Gann M’orzz, and asked her if she could transfer some of her Green Martian blood to him. Although she’s really not a Green Martian, the barista alien refugee agreed to do the blood transfusion to keep her secret identity.

Since Miss Martian is actually a White Martian disguising herself as a Green Martian, her blood could have had a negative effect on Martian Manhunter’s body that explains his erratic behavior in the trailer.

Alternately, the Martian Manhunter in the trailer may not really be the Martian Manhunter that fans have grown to love. According to the synopsis for the upcoming episode, Kara comes face to face with Cyborg Superman while fighting to free Mon-El, so it’s possible that the Martian Manhunter seen in the trailer is not the real one, but is actually Cyborg Superman.
