Chyler Leigh as Alex, Floriana Lima as Maggie
“Supergirl” star Chyler Leigh said that Alex (Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) are in that point in their relationship where they are realizing how serious they are about each other. Could this mean that viewers are going to see the two get engaged before Season 2 ends? The CW

Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) could be the first couple to get engaged on “Supergirl.”

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Leigh implied that Alex and Maggie might be reaching a new milestone in their relationship later in Season 2 of the CW series. “They have a lot to grow together,” the actress said of Alex and Maggie. “But they are [also] realizing how serious they are about each other, so I think there’s some things coming up that would take it maybe to the next level.”

While that could definitely mean that someone between the two will pop the big question soon, Leigh’s statement could also suggest other things like Maggie moving into Alex’s place or Maggie finally introducing Alex to her family.

Next week’s Season 2, episode 16 of “Supergirl,” which kicks off the musical crossover event between the former CBS series and “The Flash,” won’t focus much on Alex and Maggie’s relationship. But the “Sanvers” pairing will take the spotlight once again in Season 2, episode 17 when Alex and Maggie bump into the latter’s former lover, Emily (Hayley Sales).

“An ex-girlfriend shows up, and it’s a shocking moment for Maggie to run into her — while Alex is with her,” Lima told TVLine. “We are just walking outside of yoga class, and it was one of those moments where I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ve done that, run into an ex with a new partner!’”

Surprisingly, Alex is thrilled meeting Emily. “Alex is kind of like, ‘Oh, let’s go chat her up,’” Leigh told Entertainment Weekly last month of how her character reacts to the chance meeting. “I think there’s profiling thing that’s going on.”

Alex’s interest in Emily leads her to discover her girlfriend’s rather dark past with her ex. “Alex is, you know, she’s Alex. She finds out what really happened between them and it’s a much deeper story, a darker story,” Leigh teased. “It’s a lovely episode for Floriana, just learning more about Maggie’s background and what’s gone on in hers, and how it really does level the playing field between the both of them. So there’s great development in that.”
