Is Tyler Hoechlin filming a new episode of “Supergirl”?

On Tuesday, series star David Harewood shared a photo of him with Jeremy Jordan, Chyler Leigh and Tyler Hoechlin on Instagram. Although the caption for the photo doesn’t indicate whether the selfie was recently taken from the set of the CW series, some fans immediately thought that Hoechlin is back in Vancouver and reprising his role as Superman.

It appears, however, that the picture in question is a throwback photo, as the shirt Jordan was wearing in the pic is the same shirt he was wearing in the Season 2 premiere, where Hoechlin made his debut appearance as the Man of Steel.

During a recent press event, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said (via Entertainment Weekly) that the decision to bring back Superman on the show is above his pay grade. But if Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) cousin ends up visiting National City later in the season, Kreisberg said that he doesn’t think anyone would love it more than them and Hoechlin.

Hoechlin’s portrayal of Superman in the first two episodes of Season 2 was well-received by viewers. In fact, his guest-starring stint left a lot of fans wondering whether there would be a Superman spinoff anytime soon.

Although The CW president Mark Pedowitz was amazed by Hoechlin’s performance as Superman on “Supergirl,” the network executive told Entertainment Weekly following his panel at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in January that the network has no ongoing plans for a Superman spinoff.

“Tyler did a great job [in playing Superman, but] there’s no plan to do a series,” Pedowitz said. “There are no plans at the moment for him to return [to ‘Supergirl’]. If they wish to have him return, we’d love to have him.”
