supernatural season 10 spoilers
Dean (Jensen Ackles, left) and Sam (Jared Padalecki, right) will come face-to-face with characters from the past of "Supernatural" in episode 5 of Season 10 when the hit CW series airs the show's 200th meta, musical episode, "Fan Fiction." CW

The “Supernatural” episode we’ve all been waiting for will finally be airing on Tuesday, Nov. 11. That’s right, fans of the hit CW series will have to wait two whole weeks before they’re able to submerge themselves in “Supernatural” show tunes during the debut of the show’s first “musical-ish” episode.

According to the synopsis for episode 5, which was created as a “love letter” to the fans of the mystical series, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) will begin by investigating the disappearance of a teacher. However, when they arrive at the school to look at clues they’ll be stunned to see students putting on a musical production of the Winchester brothers’ lives. (Now if only more schools skipped “Pippin” to throw on a “Supernatural”-based play!)

“I think it’ll be one of the more amusing and engaging episodes we’ve done in a while,” the show’s EP, Jeremy Carver teased during the Television Critics Association press tour about the show's 200th episode, “Fan Fiction.” “We’re going pretty meta.”

But this isn’t the first time the “Supernatural” team has done something like this. The show once featured an episode of an alternate universe where the brothers appeared in a television show called “Supernatural” where they played themselves!

So, will “Fan Fiction” be equally as confusing? You betcha.

“We’re not at a convention, but we’re at a place where they’re doing a play based on the Chuck Shurley books,” Padalecki explained. For those who don’t know, Shurley is the real name of Carver Edlund -- a pen name that was created by combining the names of Carver and Ben Edlund. “So not only are these books based on our lives, now people are doing a play based on these books, and someone is haunting it, so we go and try to investigate what’s going on at this play, based on the books about our lives.”

Padalecki added that this is a “direct shout-out to the fans and a thank you” for the years they’ve been committed to the show. “They are the reason we’re here,” he concluded.

So, in honor of the fans, Padalecki and Ackles will be stepping (or should we say singing?) into some uncharted territory during the milestone episode. In addition to featuring a few songs (one that includes the lyrics, “I’m big brother Dean.”) the episode will also spotlight some familiar faces! “Supernatural” viewers will get a blast from the past when old friends and foes are reprised during “Fan Fiction.” But will they return as characters in the school play? That’s a question we’re still dying to find out.
