With “Switched at Birth” Season 5 winding down to its final episodes, it seems like the drama is only getting more intense. In episode 9, “The Wolf is Waiting,” Bay must help Travis get through a traumatic experience in his life while Daphne risks her career for Chris.

After a night of partying, which involved Travis (Ryan Lane) punching another student, Bay (Vanessa Marano) wakes up to a clean apartment. To thank him she offers to take him to dinner but he reveals he will be having dinner with his “bio mom,” Karen (Suanne Spoke). Travis then tells Bay that his mother asked him to invite his girlfriend to dinner and Bay agrees to go.

After calling the athletes into the clinic for a drug test, John (D.W. Moffett) reveals Chris (Sam Adegoke) said he was sick and couldn’t make it, but Kathryn (Lea Thompson) says he has 48 hours to get the test done.

Daphne (Katie Leclerc) confronts Chris about skipping out on the drug test and he explains that the steroids won’t be out of his system for another week. He says he needs Daphne to help him cheat so his drug test results come up clean.

Elsewhere, Travis is being reprimanded by John and Kathryn for punching another student. Kathryn later reveals to John that the student’s father who donates money to the school wants to have a chat with them.

At the Cracked Mug, Regina (Constance Marie) asks Toby (Lucas Grabeel) to install security cameras following a string of break-ins in the neighborhood, explaining that it would make her feel safe.

After refusing to help Chris cheat, Daphne does agree to help him try to pass the drug test by following certain techniques to get the drugs out of his system quicker since he has stopped using steroids. Although she warns him that she can’t guarantee that her methods will work.

When Bay and Travis arrive for dinner at Karen’s house she reveals his uncle Eddie will be joining the group and Travis’ whole demeanor changes. He then reveals to Bay that his uncle was the one who molested him as a kid. Bay wants to leave the dinner but Travis wants to stay so his mother doesn’t learn the truth.

Karen explains that Eddie was a father figure growing up and as the two reminisce about the old days Travis starts to get uncomfortable at the table. Bay then lies telling Karen she has to get up early and she and Travis leave the dinner.

Kathryn later sits down with the student’s father who Travis punched. The father tells Kathryn either Travis gets kicked off the team or he will pull his funding from the school.

Back in his dorm room, Bay tells Travis he has to tell his mother that his uncle, her brother, molested him. Travis thinks the news will destroy her and he also thinks that his mother will never believe him.

Elsewhere Daphne eats lunch with Chris and the aunt that raised him, revealing that he is close to his family and they believe in him and his talent.

Upon learning about the ultimatum, John refuses to cut Travis from the team but Kathryn says they have no choice because the athletics department can’t afford to lose any funding.

After putting Chris on a diet and changing his workout regime Daphne learns from a doctor that there are ways to catch athletes who try to cheat the test by changing their diet and using other methods. The doctor reveals that if he suspects someone is trying to game the test he will order a blood test which will reveal the truth without a doubt.

Toby leaves Regina alone in the Cracked Mug to run errands before finishing the installation of the security system. Regina then hears someone fumbling around in the cafe and she warns them she has a gun. That’s when her ex-boyfriend, Eric (Terrell Tilford), reveals himself.

Eric tells Regina that the police are still looking for him after kidnapping his son from his drug addict mother, but he knows a guy who can get them new identities. Eric tells Regina that he wants them to start a life together out of the country and the two begin to kiss. Regina stops things before they go too far.

John is forced to tell Travis that he is off the team but he gives him some advice. He tells him he needs to get to the bottom of his anger or it’s going to keep messing up his life.

Daphne goes to Bay for advice about Chris’ situation and Bay expresses sympathy seeing as the only reason why he had to use steroids was because he was injured during a racial profiling incident with the police.

The two are then interrupted when Karen arrives to talk to goes to see Bay because she feels like she did something wrong at dinner which caused Travis to leave. She tells Bay to have Travis tell her what is bothering him.

Bay tells Travis about her chat with his mother and tells him he has to face his problem. Travis is nervous about revealing the truth, but Bay tells him not to worry because she will be right by his side.

At the clinic, Daphne tells the doctor that she dropped Chris’ sample, giving Chris the weekend to get the drugs out of his system and pass his rescheduled drug test.

On his way out, Eric tells Regina that he will be in town for the next 48 hours in case she changes her mind and wants to run away with him, but she says she won’t.

When Travis tells his mother the truth she denies that he was molested. Travis explains that Eddie molested him because he knew he could not speak to his mother since she never bothered to learn American Sign Language.

Karen begins to cry and says she’s sorry but Travis says it’s not good enough. Bay tells Karen to sign to Travis that she believes him when she does, the two embrace.

In his dorm room, Chris thanks Daphne for helping him out and he kisses her. Daphne reveals she feels guilty over cheating and tells him he better be the man his aunt believes he is.

After Toby finishes installing the security system he discovers the cameras recorded Regina and Eric sharing a hug. After asking for advice on whether or not she should tell Luca (Michael Galante), Toby suggests she keep her moment with Eric to herself.

Now that the truth is out, Bay tells Travis that he can rebuild his relationship with his mother and he thanks her for helping. He tells Bay that as long as they are together, she is all he will ever need.

John invites Travis over and reveals that he called one of his baseball contacts and gets Travis a gig on a pro team. The only problem is that the team is in Japan and they want him there in a week.
