In “Switched at Birth” Season 5, the characters have been forced to face their problems, but just when they think they can finally move on from the past, arising situations shake things up once more on the Freeform series.

“Daphne (Katie Leclerc) witnesses a racist display aimed at the Black Student Union on campus,” the synopsis for episode 4, “Relation of Lines and Colors,” teases. Since her return, Daphne has been learning more and more about racism and the toll it takes on someone, however, this time around, it looks like she will be taking a stand for those around her.

In the “Switched at Birth” Season 5, episode 4 “Relation of Lines and Colors” promo, Daphne can be seen upset as she tells someone that a student shouldn’t have to endanger their life to get justice, most likely referring to the racist display she witnessed.

“Racial tensions worsen when those responsible are barely punished, leading Iris (Sharon Pierre-Louis) to partake in a hunger strike and Sharee (Bianca Bethune) to grow frustrated with the school’s lack of action,” the synopsis says.

In the promo, Iris can be seen protesting with several other African American students shouting “We Won’t Go.”

Earlier on in the promo, Sharee can be seen standing next to Daphne both looking shocked from something placed in front of them, the two could have found the racist display together.

“Meanwhile, Daphne receives an anonymous threat,” the synopsis states. Although the origins of this threat are unknown, many students have not been happy with her lately. Daphne wrote a piece in the student paper defending Mingo (Adam Hagenbuch) after he dressed up as rapper Lil Wayne, an act that many students deemed racist. Could someone want to quiet Daphne for good?

“Bay (Vanessa Marano) helps Emmett (Sean Berdy) with an art project, which causes friction with Travis (Ryan Lane),” the synopsis adds. In the promo for the Freeform series, can be seen spending time with Emmett and also telling Travis that she and Emmett are just friends, however, as a viewer, this is hard to believe.

In the last episode, Bay decided not to spend quality time with Travis when he asked, however, when Emmett texted her she immediately left to be with him. Is Bay starting to have second thoughts about her relationship with Travis?

Despite professing his love for her, Travis may not be the man the Bay needs anymore. Only time will tell who the tattoo apprentice will end up with.

“Switched at Birth” Season 5 airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on Freeform.
