Taylor Swift may not be a country star anymore, but she was still on hand at the 2015 ACM Awards Sunday night. The 25-year-old singer was at the Texas award show to take home the 50th Anniversary Milestone Award. The honor was made even more special when her mom, Andrea Swift, presented the trophy to her.

Taylor was recognized with the 50th Anniversary Milestone Award for her contribution to country music. Not counting her latest trophy, she has racked up seven awards since her first show in 2007. Among those top honors is the ACM Entertainer of the Year Award. She won the prestigious title in 2009 at the age of 21, becoming the youngest winner to date. Andrea Swift, who was recently diagnosed with cancer, took to the ACM stage at the AT&T Stadium to tell the audience a little bit about her superstar daughter. From a “tangled-haired little girl growing up on a farm” to sold-out world tours, Andrea recounted stories of a young Taylor Swift and her love of music. Whether it was writing a song or performing, Andrea explained that Taylor has always turned to music to carry her through the “good or bad.”

Bringing up Taylor’s hit song “Love Story,” Andrea revealed that her daughter wrote it in an hour after closing herself off in her room.

“Her dad and I strongly disapproved of a certain young man … and rightfully so,” Andrea joked. “She was mad, real mad. She went to her room, closed the door and came out an hour later with a song called ‘love story.’’

Tearing up, Andrea continued how proud she was of her daughter and thanked not only the Academy of Country Music, but the entire music community for “taking such good care” of Taylor.

“And to the fans, I know you love her as I love her and for that I thank you eternally,” she concluded. “It’s my pleasure, my pride and joy to introduce my daughter, Taylor Swift.”

After embracing her mom, Taylor thanked the country community for still welcoming her with open arms after she told them that she wanted to make a pop album and “explore other genres.”

“I’ll never forget it,” she told the audience, saying that she was grateful and proud of her country music background. Watch the video below:
