“Teen Mom” couple Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra revealed shocking details about their pre-MTV days in their newly released memoir “Conquering Chaos,” but apparently, that wasn’t all the reality stars had to share. Tyler, who co-stars alongside his fiancée Catelynn on the long-running docuseries, recently revealed that he once tried to commit suicide.

“When I was 12, I attempted suicide,” Tyler, now 23, told Radar Online of his "dark place." According to the MTV star, his brush with death occurred after his father Butch returned from prison.

“I tried to hang myself in the backyard of my house. Being so young, I was naive on how the process actually worked,” Tyler said. “I thought if I jumped, it would snap my neck and I would die instantly.”

When his plans didn’t go accordingly and he started “struggling and choking,” Tyler said he began to rethink committing suicide. “It gave me time to think. I grabbed the rope and got it out from under my neck. I ran into the house,” he shared.

Following the incident, Tyler said he was left with a rope burn on his neck for two weeks and was sent to therapy by his mother Kim Forbes. After being placed on medication, he said it took him a few years to recover.

While Tyler’s suicide attempt will most likely come as a shock to “Teen Mom” viewers, it’s not the only bombshell he has recently shared with fans. In “Conquering Chaos,” the dad wrote about his battle with drugs, cigarettes and alcohol after being introduced to the substances as an 8-year-old.

“One day we came across one of my uncle’s bags of weed. We basically knew what it was, but we didn’t know what to do with it … so we just kind of stuck it on top and burned it,” he admitted in the tell-all, according to InTouch Weekly.

What allegedly followed included more drug use and eventually a seizure after huffing household cleaners. “I started having a seizure and shaking around on the ground, that my eyes rolled back in my head,” he wrote.

In the memoir Catelynn, 22, discussed her troubled home life with her mom April and her boyfriends. (She eventually went on to marry Tyler’s dad Butch before divorcing him in 2013. She has since remarried.)

“I used to get out of bed at night and ask them to turn it down so I could get some sleep before I had to go to school,” Catelynn said.

Tyler and Catelynn first rose to fame on Season 1 of MTV’s famed “16 and Pregnant” series in 2009. On the show, the couple gave up their daughter Carly, now 5, for adoption. The couple went on to star on four seasons of the spinoff series “Teen Mom.” Amid filming for the fifth season of the show "Teen Mom Original Girls," which premieres on MTV Monday, March 23, the duo welcomed their second daughter Novalee Reign in January. They’re reportedly planning to wed in August.
