A young mother who allegedly left her infant alone for a week and died while she was with friends faces a 10-year sentence, according to reports. Viktoria Kuznetsova, 17, reportedly told neighbors and that the child, Egor, was being looked after by an aunt. The 9-month-old boy starved to death while Kuznetsova posted on social media.

Kuznetsova left the home Sept. 5. The woman’s neighbors in Rostov, Russia, grew suspicious of Kuznetsova’s claim and notified the authorities, the Independent reported Tuesday. Police found the child dead in the home Sept. 13, and he reportedly showed signs of exhaustion.

As the child died while alone in the home, she is reported to have posted on Russian social media site VK.com. According to the Independent, Kuznetsova wrote she was “hanging out with Nastya, I’ve dyed my hair black.” She also posted that “everything is OK,” the Mail Online reported Monday.

Kuznetsova waited until her husband was away on military service to abandon the child in their home. She told police upon her detainment that she no longer wanted to care for the child, according to Mail Online. She also reportedly offered the child up for adoption after a month, only to have the child returned to her care at 7 months old.

Her husband is filing for divorce, according to reports.

“Currently, the suspect was detained. Investigative actions are being conducted to collect and consolidate the evidence base,” said a report on the incident from the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Yaroslavl Region. “An investigation team was established to investigate the criminal case.”

Kuznetsova had no criminal history prior to the incident involving her son, according to Russian news outlet NTV.
