UPDATE 12:24 a.m. EST: A man who had barricaded himself and his critically ill young son into a room at Tomball Regional Medical Center near Huston, Texas has surrendered to police.

Posts on social media from the Harris County Sherrif's Office confirmed that the man had "surrendered without incident," and that he was not armed.

Law enforcement further added that the hospital was no longer operating on lockdown procedures.

UPDATE 10:50 p.m. EST: The Harris County Sheriff's Office said a man upset about his son's medical condition has locked himself and the boy inside a hospital room in the critical care unit and is refusing to comply with police commands. "Latest information is that this is NOT a hostage situation," the sheriff's office said on its website.

The High Risk Operation Unit has taken control of the scene. Evacuations have been limited to adjacent rooms.

UPDATE 10:05 p.m. EST: The Harris County Sheriff's office said the father of a critically ill boy Saturday took at least two hostages at Tomball Regional Medical Center near Houston. KHOU-TV, Houston, reported the hospital is closed and the sheriff's office's High Risk Operation Unit is at the scene. The sheriff's office described the hostage-taker as distraught. KTRK, Houston, reported it was unclear whether the man was armed. KPRC, Houston, reported though the hospital is not accepting patients, it is not on lockdown and no evacuations have been ordered.

UPDATE 8:45 p.m.: KHOU, Houston, reports a distraught father has taken at least two hostages at Tomball Medical Center near Houston. Police are at the scene.

UPDATE 9:06 p.m. EST: A Gunman entered Tomball Medical Center near Houston Saturday and has taken at least two people hostages, PzFeed reported. KHOU reported a hospital spokeswoman said the situation was "being assessed" but she declined to give further details.

A gunman has reportedly taken hostages at Tomball hospital outside Houston, KHOU and KTRK, Houston, reported. Details are scarce.

KPRC, Houston, reported Tomball Police are responding to the incident. Tomball police confirmed there is a hostage situation at the hospital.

The hospital employs 238 active physicians and has more than 350 beds. Tomball Regional Medical Center is about 30 minutes from the center of Houston.

The hostage-taking came just a day after radical Islamic terrorists took hostages in two locations outside Paris. Four people died at one location while the hostage at the second was freed by police. Those incidents grew from a shooting at the Charlie Hebdo offices where gunmen killed 12 in retaliation for cartoons the satirical comics the magazine published of Prophet Muhammad.
