The top after-market NASDAQ stock market gainers are: Orexigen Therapeutics, Arena Pharmaceuticals, Mitcham Industries, VIVUS, Casella Waste Systems, Scientific Games, Discovery Communications, Digirad, Amylin Pharmaceuticals, DIRECTV, and Lamar Advertising.

Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc. (OREX) surged 155.03 percent to $12.42 in the after-market trading. The company and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. said FDA advisory committee backed Orexigen's new diet pill Contrave or naltrexone sustained release-SR/bupropion SR for the treatment of obesity despite heart risk concerns.

Orexigen said the committee also voted for a detailed study to examine the drug's effect on risk for major adverse cardiac events should be conducted as a post-approval requirement versus pre-approval.

Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (ARNA) jumped 12.06 percent to $1.58 in the after-hours session. The FDA panel's approval of Orexigen's new diet drug Contrave gave a lift to Arena shares whose diet drug Lorcaserin's phase 3 trial has showed statistically significant weight loss.

Mitcham Industries Inc. (MIND) soared 11.55 percent to $10.24 in the after-market trading. The company's third quarter profit was $0.7 million or 7 cents a share, down from $1.03 million or 10 cents a share last year. Revenue rose 37 percent to $19.97 million. Analysts had expected profit of 4 cents a share on revenue of $14.94 million.

VIVUS Inc. (VVUS) improved 10.90 percent to $8.65 in the after-hours session. The FDA panel's approval of Orexigen's new weight loss drug Contrave gave a lift to VIVUS shares. VIVUS said in late October that it is preparing a comprehensive response on its diet drug Qnexa Controlled-Release Capsules and plans to submit the response to the FDA in around six weeks, after the drug got rejected from FDA.

Casella Waste Systems Inc. (CWST) climbed 4.17 percent to $5.75 in the after-market trading.

Scientific Games Corp. (SGMS) grew 3.67 percent to $9.03 in the after-hours session.

Discovery Communications, Inc. (DISCA) rose 3.46 percent to $44.60 in the after-market trading.

Digirad Corp. (DRAD) gained 3.33 percent to $2.09 in the after-hours session.

Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AMLN) increased 2.80 percent to $13.21 in the after-market trading.

DIRECTV (DTV) moved up 2.39 percent to $40.35 in the after-hours session.

Lamar Advertising Co. (LAMR) rose 2.30 percent to $39.54 in the after-market trading.
