New York state has banned TCEP, a toxic flame retardant chemical. The ban comes at a time when the use of toxic flame retardant chemicals in children's products is raising serious safety concerns.

Many other states are expected to follow New York and ban TCEP.

Supporting the state's move, Flameret, one of the leading providers of flame retardant products, plans to introduce a completely non-toxic flame retardant product.

TDCP or Chlorinated Tris, which was widely used in children's nightwear, is another toxic flame retardant banned in the country after the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission tagged the chemical as harmful and causing cancer in the 1970s. However, it is still legally used in most of the other children's products.
