On a road trip to Boise, Idaho, Travis Chambers asked his wife Chelsea a simple math question: If you are traveling 80 miles per hour, how long does it take you to go 80 miles? It's a relatively simple math question, but it wasn't for Chelsea. Her four-minute long response called The Real Meaning of MPH, where she tries to work out the complicated physics in her head, has gone viral on YouTube, racking up more than 3.4 million hits since it was uploaded on Dec. 16.

Uh oh... this went viral, Travis Chambers said three days ago on YouTube. This is not going to be easy to break to my wife. Chambers' comment has 3,118 likes.

Even though the video was posted three months ago, The Real Meaning of MPH has seen a spike in traffic over the last three days since it was posted on the Tosh.0 blog, which is an Internet companion to comedian Daniel Tosh's Comedy Central show, Tosh.0.

Well... if I run the mile in about nine minutes -- well that's when I'm out of shape, I'm running it in about seven minutes when I'm really in shape, and that takes me a mile. And we're going 80 miles, I'm running about 10 miles per hour if that, and that's pretty fast for a human being, I think.

Chelsea also guesstimates that the tire would turn 400 times in a mile, but gives up trying to do the math any further than that. When she again guesstimates that traveling 80 miles at 80 mph would take 58 minutes, Travis finally felt compelled to explain the truth to his wife.

Do you want to know what the answer is? Travis asks. Think about 80 miles per hour. So how long does it take meto go 80 miles if I'm traveling 80. Miles. Per. Hour?

Her response:

Well you're probably going faster than a mile a minute. I would whack 80 in half and that's 40, because you're probably going two minutes a mile. I mean, sometimes tires turn faster than others, because I mean a truck is probably slower because it weighs more, but I think it also matters if your car's a stick or automatic...

About halfway through the video, Travis just gives up, and tells her that if he's driving 80 miles per hour, he's going to travel 80 miles in an hour. Even at this point, Chelsea still doesn't get it.

No you are not! Because you are driving faster than a mile a minute. I can run one mile in seven minutes, and that's at 10 [mph]. And that's booking it too.

You really have to see it to believe it. Chambers hasn't fully explained the background of the conversation or the history between he and his wife Chelsea, but he does promise that the background story on this video will be coming soon. We will update you as soon as we get the full story too.

Until then, enjoy The Real Meaning of MPH.
