The Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman case cost the city of Sanford, Fla., $670,364, said Cynthia Lindsay, the city’s finance director, in an email.

International Business Times got hold of the latest city records of these expenses, updated as of June 28, 2013.

Most of the extra expense was for all the overtime put in by law enforcement officials, which totaled at $132,754. The city also spent $70,173 in legal fees and $30,462 in crisis communications and public relations.

The city also lost a police chief during this case -- former police chief Bill Lee initially stepped down and was later fired. The city spent $12,988 to retain interim police chief Richard Myers, as well as $29,105 in recruiting a new police chief.
