“Under the Dome” fans can expect double the drama when the science fiction series returns to the small screen this June with a two-hour premiere. That’s right, Season 3 of the CBS thriller will kick off with twice the chaos as our favorite Chester’s Mill residents attempt to cope with the new obstacles created by the Dome.

According to the synopsis for episode 1 and 2, which will air Thursday, June 25, audiences can anticipate the townfolk of Chester’s Mill to face new, dangerous threats “following their mysterious encounter in the tunnels beneath the town.”

In the Season 2 finale of “Under the Dome,” Barbie (Mike Vogel) and the residents of the trapped city attempted to escape the entrapment of the Dome through a crater. However, not everyone was able to flee Chester’s Mill after the chasm widened, leaving Julia (Rachelle Lefevre), Junior (Alexander Koch) and crazy Big Jim (Dean Norris) stuck behind.

In Season 3, the Dome will begin to reveal “it’s ultimate agenda,” the premiere summary teases, adding that the townspeople will be “forced to question what and whom they can trust as fresh threats appear."

During a CBS summer press event, executive producers Neal Baer and Tim Sclattmann announced that the supernatural series would finally answer the burning questions of fans in the third installment.

“We will tell you why the dome came down and what it’s about,” Baer confirmed, adding that by the Season 3 finale, “you’ll know exactly why this happened the way that it happened.”

But answers will only lead to more questions and according to reports, viewers can expect their fair share of head-scratching moments when new residents begin to emerge. The newcomers will throw a wrench into the storyline as surprising alliances begin to form.

“Under the Dome” will air its Season 3 premiere, “Move On” and “But I’m Not," on Thursday, June 25, at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS. Following the two-hour premiere, the series will return to its regular airtime of 10 p.m. EDT.
