“This is Us”
“This is Us” has been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 on NBC. NBC

“This is Us” premiered last fall and, much to the delight of NBC, has been a great success. The drama continues to draw record high numbers of viewers week after week with its heartbreaking — and often surprising — storylines. As such, many are looking forward to Season 2, but will there be one?

On Wednesday it was confirmed that NBC had picked up “This is Us” for not one, but two more seasons. TV Line reported that the official announcement was made during the Television Critics Association winter press tour. Seasons 2 and 3 will be 18 episodes long. No official premiere date for the sophomore season has been announced at this time.

Creator Dan Fogelman, along with the cast and crew of “This is Us,” were elated to get the news. In a tweet to his 14.5 million followers, Fogelman shared a video of the cast getting the confirmation from an NBC executive during the TCAs. Their surprise upon hearing that 36 episodes are being ordered is absolutely priceless.

Mandy Moore and Chrissy Metz shared their own excitement about “This is Us” being renewed. Moore, who plays Rebecca — the mother of the Big Three — tweeted that she was “elated,” adding a big “thank you” to NBC and all who continue to tune in week after week. Metz, Moore’s on-screen daughter Kate, tweeted that the network and the show made her “dream come true.”

“This is Us” returned for the second half of Season 1 on Jan. 10. The show has, thus far, revealed that Toby (Chris Sullivan) is alive after a brush with death in the winter finale and taken a trip into the past, revisiting the day the Pearson triplets were born — one of whom was stillborn — and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) came into Rebecca and Jack’s (Milo Ventimiglia) lives.

Ventimiglia teased a big reveal about the death of his character during an interview with The Wrap, more specifically the cause, to come in Season 1. He was unable to reveal any more for fear of giving it away, but promised that “This is Us” viewers will get the answers they have been looking for in time.

“This is Us” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
