WASHINGTON – The United States plans to transfer $200 million to the struggling Palestinian Authority to help cover its budget crisis, an Obama administration official said on Friday.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is expected to announce the transfer of funds later on Friday as part of U.S. efforts to improve conditions on the ground that will bolster attempts to revive stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

The money is part of $900 million in aid that Clinton pledged at a donors conference in Egypt in March, the official, who declined to be named because Clinton was making the announcement, told Reuters.
