"The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 episode 21 Guy D'Alema/The CW

Brace yourselves … because only two episodes remain in Season 5 of “The Vampire Diaries.” And although the hit CW series is winding down, the drama and intensity is definitely mounting. The synopsis for episode 21, “Promised Land,” has leaked online, and it’s one that fans won’t want to miss.

Last time “Vampire Diaries” viewers left off, Markos and the Travelers had found Stefan and Elena at their secluded spot in the woods. Episode 20 ended with Markos using magic to paralyze Elena, however fans didn’t see the Travelers take the doppelgangers. But according to the synopsis for “Promised Land,” the Travelers did take Elena and Stefan … however, they won’t have the vampires in their grasp for long.

The pair will manage to escape from Markos’ control, but unfortunately they end up “stranded in a remote location.” And what do you do when you’re stranded? Apparently for Stefan, an appropriate past time is getting “philosophical” with his ex-girlfriend about her relationship with his brother!

Damon and Elena’s troubled relationship should be the last thing on their mind though, because when Liv and Luke fail to protect the doppelgangers they “come up with a dangerous new strategy.”

“We have to kill Stefan and Elena,” Liv says to her brother in the promo video. (An extremely drastic move, we know.)

The promo video for episode 21 teases that the two witches will hunt down the doppelgangers, using magic to crush the pick-up truck they’re in.

“I’m sorry but one of you needs to die,” Liv says to Elena as she uses magic to keep her in pain on the street.

Will Liv go through with her deadly plan? And if so, who will she kill? “Vampire Diaries” fans will have to wait and see, but that’s not the only jaw dropper in “Promised Land.”

Damon will continue to try and stop Markos by enlisting the help of the “Hardy Boys” -- Matt and Jeremy. The trio wants to set a trap for the evil Traveler leader, but Markos has a “devastating surprise” up his sleeves.

Bonnie will also join in on the efforts to stop Markos after she comes clean to Caroline about the crumbling “Other Side.” Meanwhile, Caroline will witness “an unthinkable act of violence by one of the Travelers.”

Episode 21, “Promised Land,” will air on the CW on May 8 at 8 p.m. EDT. What do you think will happen on “The Vampire Diaries”? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section or send a tweet to @AmandaTVScoop.
